Ganesh is a Sanskrit compound word made up of two parts. The first,
gana, means group or multitude, and the second,
isha, means lord or master. Hence Ganesh is known as the Lord of Hosts or of the elements. Additionally, the “ga” Sanskrit symbol of his name symbolizes intellect and the “na” symbol represents wisdom, which leads to Ganesh also being known as the God of the Intellect and Wisdom.
